The day I met the mushroom
Date: Monday 17 June 2019
Location: Gili Trawagan
On Monday 17th June 2019 at around 17:00 pm local time I took 3 cones, the equivalent of around 4 grams of magic mushrooms.
My friend AK from India took the same dose as me.
The preparation was simple, the locals mixed orange juice, pineapple juice and the dose of mushrooms in a blender.
The resulting juice tasted great. I finished in about 2–3 minutes.
At that time we were relaxing close to the beach. I started to feel the effects around the 30 minute mark where a surge of heat invaded my body and head and I had to buy a big bottle of water.
To be honest I felt very nervous, the loss of ego and a past experience of LSD made my mind run into negative loops and thoughts, but my friend AK was of big support and understanding.
We decided to walk to a place called Sunset Point where I experienced the most amazing sunset of my life.
During the month of June in Gili Trawangan, low tides reveal beautiful corals which during the day remain covered by sea water. I decided to walk on them and get a comfortable spot on which to sit and watch the sunset.
I was walking on the corals while playing music from my Bluetooth speaker; some deep house music which gave relaxing vibes. I danced to the rythm and let my body express and move. I was wearing sandals, swimsuit and no t-shirt; carrying my bottle of water and small backpack on my shoulders.
Before the sunset, I closed my eyes and started to see waves and colors, combined with the orange and blue shades of the sky. The visuals were not strong but a sense of clarity and brightness was evident. I knew the trip was starting.
At 18.04 pm the sunset reached the point where the horizon appears to absorb every color from the sun, I stopped the music, and stood still to witness this magical moment. I looked at the sky and realized how small I am in this universe.
My friend AK kept on watching the colors and I decided to step back to the beach as I started to get anxious and my mind was running on loops again.
Minutes after we both decided to keep on walking around the beach and explore Gili.
We started from Sunset Point and walked in the direction of the luxury resorts of this island. We were following some friends that were staying with us in the same hostel and were extremely supportive in this whole trip.
Our friends were going back to the hostel to take a nap after a tiring day and AK and I decided to follow them back to the hostel, maybe take a shower; some supplies and get back to exploring Gili.
The night and thus the dark came rapidly, a sense of heat invaded my body again but I ignored it and started to play more music and dance more. AK was looking uneasy and laughing uncontrollably. We both had previous experience with psychedelics. But this time, it was different.
In Gili at around 7 pm you can hear religious songs and prayers which can be a little scary. In fact, while walking and following our friends we got a little lost. I decided to keep my phone on airplane mode to not get disturbed during the trip. I know smalll things and messages can affect your trip.
So we kept on following our friends while walking in the jungle. Suddenly my Bluetooth speaker ran out of battery and I said to myself that maybe it was time to enjoy the nature and let her do the talking.
It was a combination of walking in the middle of the jungle, hindu prayers and the powerful mushrooms that made me realize this was going to be a journey and the mushrooms would do the talking.
I told my friend AK. ‘Bro, let’s follow the path, it’s a quest’
